Muir Environmental Corps (MEC) participates in environmental activities at the college and in the surrounding community. Outings include clean-up projects at the cliffs, and along streams and beach bluffs, supporting recycling efforts around the campus, and coordinating Muir’s Annual Whale Watching Trip.
The Staff Sustainability Network is focused on bringing awareness, transparency, and collaboration to existing sustainability efforts, providing support in pursuing new opportunities for positive impact, connecting faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members with similar eco-passions.
As guided by the philosophy of Thurgood Marshall College, to develop the scholar and the citizen, the Community Garden will serve as an opportunity to learn about social responsibility through sustainable living, an outdoor study area and a means to develop a close-knit Marshall community.
The Sustainability Ambassadors are a registered campus student organization based on the Carbon Neutrality Initiative. This program aims to educate and engage UC San Diego students through peer education and programming to raise awareness of UC's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2025.
Price Center East expansion received a LEED silver equivalent rating for sustainable elements and construction practices. The new Sustainability Resource Center is housed in Price Center West, creating visibility for sustainable efforts and enhancing collaboration among students, staff and faculty.
